The 3 things I wish someone told me when I became a single mom
Nobody prepares you for doing it alone. Here's what I learned the hard way:
1. "Ask for help" is not a personality flaw.
I spent months trying to prove I could handle everything solo. Spoiler: I couldn't. And that's not weakness ā it's math. One person can't do the job of two. Build your village intentionally. Even if it's just one person you trust.
2. Your kids don't need a perfect mom. They need a present one.
I was so focused on making sure they didn't "feel the absence" that I forgot to just... be there. The burned dinner and the messy living room? They won't remember that. They'll remember you sitting on the floor playing with them.
3. Your financial situation is temporary. Your identity is not.
When money got tight, I started defining myself by my bank balance. That was a trap. Budget hard, yes. Cut what you can, absolutely. But never confuse your net worth with your self-worth.
I'm building Aura & Thread because I needed this space and it didn't exist. Weekly guides, a real community, and digital tools designed for moms who are doing it differently ā not doing it less.
