5 things I wish someone told me in my first trimester
I've spent years researching pregnancy wellness, and these are the things that would have saved me so much anxiety early on:
1. Morning sickness isn't just in the morning. It can hit at 3pm, at midnight, or basically whenever it feels like it. Keep bland snacks within arm's reach at all times — crackers, rice cakes, dry toast. Eating small amounts frequently beats waiting for big meals.
*2. Fatigue in the first trimester is next level.* Your body is building an entire organ (the placenta) from scratch. If you need to nap at 2pm on a Tuesday, that's not laziness — that's biology. Give yourself permission to rest.
3. Not every pregnancy symptom needs Google. I know it's tempting to search every twinge and cramp at midnight. But most of what you'll find will spike your anxiety. Write your questions down and bring them to your provider instead.
4. Prenatal vitamins matter more than your diet right now. Especially if nausea is making it hard to eat. Folate, iron, DHA — these are doing heavy lifting for your baby's development in weeks 3-8. If pills make you gag, try gummy versions or take them at night.
5. Your emotions are valid — all of them. Excited one minute, terrified the next, crying over a dog food commercial? That's progesterone and hCG doing their thing. You're not losing it. You're growing a human.
If you're in your first trimester right now — you've got this. And if you want a community of women who actually get it, BabyDreamers is free to join. 💜
