The 4-Box Method: the only decluttering system you'll ever need
Most people fail at decluttering because they try to make a "keep or toss" decision on every single item — and decision fatigue kills the project by hour two.
Here's the fix: the 4-Box Method.
Before you touch anything, label four boxes (or spots on the floor):
Keep — Use it weekly, love it, or need it. No hesitation.
Donate — Good condition, but you haven't touched it in 6+ months.
Trash — Broken, expired, or genuinely useless.
Maybe — Anything you can't decide on in under 10 seconds.
The trick nobody tells you: the Maybe box is the whole system. Seal it, date it, and put it in a closet for 30 days. If you don't go looking for anything in it during that window, donate the entire box unopened. You just proved you didn't need any of it.
Do this room by room, starting with the easiest room in your home (usually the bathroom — low sentimental value, fast wins). Momentum matters more than starting with the "hardest" room.
That's it. No apps, no spreadsheets, no 90-day challenges. Four boxes and 30 days.
