Why most yard-prop STLs fail on a hobby printer
I stopped buying “print-ready” props after the third tombstone that needed 4 hours of repair in the slicer.
The usual problems:
Modeled for resin, dumped as STL, never printed on a 220mm bed
No elephant-foot compensation, so the first layer mushrooms and the whole piece leans
Walls too thin for outdoor PLA, so they snap the first windy night
Orientation that looks fine in the viewer and warps the second it hits a cold garage
Print-ready, for prop work, means: first layer tested on FDM, oriented for a standard hobby bed, walls thick enough to live outside, and a brim where the piece actually needs it.
If you’re building a haunt this year, check the bed before you check the file. A crooked mesh will ruin a perfect STL. A bad STL will ruin a perfectly leveled bed.
