Why most local businesses fail at social media (it's not content quality)
I run Benu Agency and manage social accounts for 8 local businesses right now — gyms, salons, restaurants. After doing this for a while, here's the pattern I keep seeing:
It's never about content quality. It's about consistency and cross-platform presence.
Most local business owners post great content... once every 3 weeks, on one platform, when they remember to. Meanwhile their competitor posts mediocre content 4x/week across LinkedIn, Facebook, and TikTok — and wins on reach alone.
The algorithm rewards consistency way more than production value. A phone-shot video posted every single week will outperform a polished video posted quarterly.
If you're a local business owner trying to DIY your socials: pick 2 platforms max, commit to a fixed posting schedule, and track only one metric for the first 3 months — engagement rate, not followers.
Happy to answer questions if anyone's stuck on their own social strategy.
