Those automatic car washes with the spinning brushes? They're grinding dirt and grit across your paint every single time. That "clean" look you see driving out is actually thousands of micro-scratches catching the light.

Here's what's actually happening:

1. The brushes never get cleaned. They carry dirt from every car before yours and drag it across your clear coat like sandpaper.

2. The soap is weak on purpose. Strong soap costs more. So they use the bare minimum, which means debris stays on the surface while the brushes push it around.

3. The drying blowers don't finish the job. Water spots bake into the paint in the sun and etch permanently over time.

What to do instead:

• Two-bucket hand wash at home (one for soap, one for rinse) with a microfiber mitt

• Clay bar every 3-4 months to pull embedded contaminants

• Wax or sealant after every wash for UV protection
