The budget mistake killing most people's paid ad campaigns

Most people scale paid ads wrong. They find a winning ad, then dump 5x the budget into it overnight — and watch performance collapse within 48 hours.

Here's why: ad platforms learn your audience through the delivery algorithm. When you jump budget too fast, you knock the algorithm out of its optimized delivery phase and it has to re-learn from scratch — usually with worse results, since it's now searching a broader, less-qualified pool to spend the extra budget.

The fix is boring but it works: scale budget in 20-30% increments, no more than once every 2-3 days. Let the algorithm stabilize between bumps. If you want to scale faster, duplicate the ad set at the new budget instead of editing the original — this creates a fresh learning phase without disrupting the ad set that's already performing.

Same logic applies whether you're on Meta, TikTok, or Google. Slow, structured scaling beats aggressive budget jumps almost every time.

I put together a full course on this kind of stuff — the systems behind scaling paid growth without blowing up your CAC. Happy to answer questions here if anyone's dealing with this right now.

Why I started bundling flowers, coffee, and dessert together

Most gift shops make you choose: flowers OR a treat OR a drink. But when I actually thought about how people gift things — an anniversary, an apology, a "just because" — it's never just one thing. It's an experience.

So I built Bloom & Brew around a simple idea: one order, three senses covered. A fresh bouquet, a bag of small-batch coffee, and a handmade dessert, all hand-packed together for pickup or delivery.

A few things I learned setting this up that might help other small gifting businesses on here:

  • Bundling beats upselling. Instead of asking customers to add a coffee or dessert at checkout, we bake it into one price. Conversion goes up when there's no decision fatigue.

  • Freshness windows matter more than presentation. Flowers and desserts both have short shelf lives — we design the whole fulfillment flow (pickup/delivery windows) around freshness first, aesthetics second.

  • Occasion-based marketing outperforms product-based marketing. "Gift for her" or "Sorry, I messed up" converts better than "Flower bouquet, $39.99."

If you're building a local gifting or occasion-based business, happy to swap notes. And if you want to try the first bundle — code LAUNCH20 gets you 20% off.
