Welcome to BowCraft 🎻

Hey — welcome, and congrats on taking the leap.

Here's how to get the most out of BowCraft:

1. Start the Course — Head to "Violin Foundations Course" in the sidebar. Go in order — the lessons build on each other.

2. Jump into the Student Lounge — Introduce yourself. Share what made you pick up the violin. Ask questions anytime.

3. Follow Updates & Tips — I'll be posting technique breakdowns, practice routines, and answers to common mistakes regularly.

The hardest part is already done — you showed up. Now let's get to work.

5 things I wish someone told me before I started learning violin

I've been teaching violin for years now, and the same mistakes come up over and over with adult beginners. Here's what would've saved me months:

1. Your bow hold matters more than the notes. Seriously. A relaxed, balanced bow hold is the foundation of every good sound you'll ever make. Most beginners death-grip the bow and wonder why they sound scratchy.

2. Intonation is trained, not gifted. Unlike guitar, there are no frets. Your ear develops over time. Record yourself, listen back, adjust. It's a feedback loop, not a talent check.

3. Practice 15 minutes daily > 2 hours on weekends. Muscle memory is built through consistency. Short, focused sessions beat marathon cram sessions every single time.

4. Open strings are not boring — they're your secret weapon. Tone production on open strings teaches bow speed, pressure, and contact point. If you skip this, everything else suffers.

5. Get comfortable being bad. The violin is not a "sound good in week one" instrument. That's what makes it rewarding. The people who stick with it past the ugly phase are the ones who fall in love with it.

If you're an adult thinking about starting — stop thinking and start. The best time was 10 years ago. The second best time is today.
