Why most indie artists never grow (and what actually works)
I've worked with a lot of early-stage artists, and the #1 reason they stay stuck has nothing to do with their music.
It's that they treat promotion like a one-time thing.
They'll drop a track, post about it for 3 days, get 200 streams, and call it a failure. Then they spend 6 more months making another song — and repeat the cycle.
Here's what actually builds momentum:
Consistent presence > viral moments. The artists who grow are the ones who are showing up in playlists, on IG, in blogs, and in communities every single week — not just on release day.
Pitching matters more than posting. Most artists only promote to their existing followers. But your fans already know you exist. Growth comes from getting in front of people who don't know you yet — through playlist submissions, blog features, YouTube channels, and cross-promo with other artists in your niche.
Your brand is your filter. When someone finds your music for the first time, they should immediately know who you are, what you sound like, and why they should follow. Most artists skip this step entirely.
I started BreakThrough Music to help independent artists build a real, repeatable promo system — not just one-off hype. If you're an early-stage artist ready to be consistent, come through.
