Stop using default Procreate brushes for calligraphy

If you're doing calligraphy in Procreate with the default brush library, you're fighting the tool instead of flowing with it.

Default brushes are built for general illustration. They don't understand how a pointed nib spreads under pressure. They can't simulate iron gall ink pooling at the edges of a stroke. They don't know that a broad-edge chisel should produce thick-thin variation based on angle, not pressure.

Custom brushes do.

I built BrushCraft Studio because I spent years reverse-engineering Procreate's brush engine to make it behave like real calligraphy tools — and I'm tired of watching talented letterers struggle with brushes that weren't designed for their craft.

What the course covers:

  • Brush Engine Fundamentals — Shape sources, grain sources, and how they multiply together to create every stroke

  • Pressure & Dynamics — Mapping Apple Pencil pressure, tilt, and speed to create authentic nib behavior

  • Texture & Grain Design — Building custom grain sources from real paper textures and simulating fountain pen, sumi, and metallic inks

  • Style-Specific Brushes — Pointed pen (Copperplate/Spencerian), broad edge (Italic/Blackletter), and brush script from scratch

  • Advanced Customization — StreamLine mastery, color dynamics, library organization, and exporting brush sets

16 lessons. Every one with hands-on exercises. You'll finish with a complete custom brush library and the knowledge to build any brush you can imagine.

This isn't about downloading someone else's brush pack. It's about understanding the engine so deeply that you never need to download a brush pack again.
