Challenge: What's your 'no spend' record? 🏆

Let's play a game.

What's the longest you've gone without spending ANY money? Not a single rand.

I'll go first — my record is 2 days 😅 (and that was only because I was sick at home).

Rules:

  • Bills on debit order don't count (those happen automatically)

  • Buying airtime/data counts as spending

  • Free plan or Pro — everyone can play

Drop your record below and let's see who's the most disciplined in here.

Bonus challenge: Try to beat your own record this week. Track your "no spend" days in BudgetFlow 📊

5 expenses that are silently draining your account 💸

You know the big expenses — rent, car, insurance. But it's the small, invisible ones that do the real damage.

1. Subscription creep

Netflix + Spotify + YouTube Premium + DStv + gym = R500-R1000/month. When's the last time you used all of them?

2. Bank fees

Check your statement. You might be paying R100-R200/month just for having an account. Switch to a cheaper option if it doesn't serve you.

3. "Just R20" purchases

A R20 here, R30 there. Five times a day, five days a week = R500-R750/month you never noticed.

4. Delivery fees

That R15 Uber Eats delivery fee adds up. If you order 3x a week, that's R180/month just in delivery charges — not even counting the food markup.

5. Data bundles

Buying R29 daily bundles instead of a R299 monthly plan? That's R870 vs R299. Same data, 3x the cost.

Start tracking these in BudgetFlow. You'll find money you didn't know you had.

The R49 rule that changed how I think about money

Most people don't have a spending problem. They have an awareness problem.

I tracked every rand I spent for 30 days and here's what I found:

  • R1,200+ went to random takeaways I barely remember

  • R800 on subscriptions I forgot I had

  • R400 on impulsive online purchases

That's over R2,400/month on stuff that added zero value to my life. Not because I'm bad with money — but because I never actually looked.

The fix isn't some complicated spreadsheet or a finance degree. It's just seeing where the money goes.

That's why I built BudgetFlow — a dead simple app where you log transactions, set budget goals, and actually see the breakdown. Charts, categories, the whole picture.

The free version gives you 15 transactions and a basic dashboard. Pro unlocks everything — unlimited tracking, full charts, unlimited goals — for R49/month.

R49 to potentially save thousands? That's the easiest ROI you'll ever get.
