The 3 biggest training mistakes I see guys make in the gym
After years of training and helping other people with their programs, these are the three mistakes I see kill progress more than anything else:
1. Program hopping every 3 weeks
Your body needs 4-6 weeks minimum to adapt to a stimulus. If you're switching programs every time you see a new one on TikTok, you're basically always starting over. Pick a proven program and run it for 12 weeks. The results come from consistency, not novelty.
2. Ignoring the boring fundamentals
Everyone wants the optimal supplement stack or the perfect exercise variation. Meanwhile they're sleeping 5 hours, skipping meals, and not tracking anything. Sleep 7-8 hours. Eat enough protein (1g per lb of bodyweight). Progressive overload. That's 90% of the game.
3. Training to failure every single set
Going to failure has its place, but doing it on every set of every exercise is a recipe for terrible recovery, joint pain, and stalled progress. Keep 1-2 reps in reserve on most sets. Save failure for the last set of isolations. Your joints will thank you in 5 years.
These aren't flashy tips. They're the fundamentals that separate people who actually get results from people who spin their wheels for years.
If this resonates, Built Different is where I go deeper on this stuff every week — training programming, nutrition protocols, recovery strategies. No fluff.
