The 3 mistakes every gym beginner makes (and how to fix them)
I've coached dozens of beginners and they ALL make the same three mistakes in their first 6 months. Here's what they are and how to avoid wasting your time:
Mistake #1: Program hopping
You do PPL for 2 weeks, switch to bro split, then try some influencer's "science-based" routine. Pick ONE program and run it for 12 weeks minimum. Progressive overload only works if you're consistent with the same movements long enough to actually get stronger at them.
Mistake #2: Eating like you're still on the couch
You can't build muscle eating 1,500 calories. Most skinny beginners need 2,500-3,000+ calories with at least 0.8g protein per pound of bodyweight. Track your food for 2 weeks — you'll realize you're eating way less than you think.
Mistake #3: Chasing the pump instead of tracking progress
If you're not writing down your sets, reps, and weight, you're not training — you're just exercising. The difference between people who transform and people who look the same a year later? A logbook.
Built Different exists to solve exactly this. Simple programs, clear nutrition guidance, and a community of people going through the same thing. No noise.
