I tracked every pill I took for 6 months. Here's what I learned about why most people fail at medication adherence.

Most people think they're good at taking their meds. The data says otherwise.

The NHS spends an estimated £300 million per year on wasted medication — pills prescribed but never taken. I used to be part of that statistic. I'd miss doses, double up by accident, and have no idea if my supplements were actually doing anything.

So I ran an experiment. For 6 months, I tracked every single pill, vitamin, and supplement I took. Time of day. Whether I ate first. How I felt after. Here's what the data showed:

1. "I'll remember" is a lie

In month one, I missed 23% of my doses — and I was trying. The biggest culprit? Afternoon doses. Morning routine? Fine. Evening? Mostly fine. But anything between 12-4pm was basically a coin flip.

2. Pairing beats willpower

When I attached my afternoon dose to lunch (not "after lunch" — literally placed the pill next to my plate), my adherence jumped to 94%. The habit stack changed everything.

3. Weekly tracking changed my behaviour more than daily reminders

Phone notifications became noise after 2 weeks. But reviewing a weekly dashboard showing my actual adherence rate? That hit different. Seeing "78%" when I thought I was at "95%" was a wake-up call.

4. The "double dose" problem is real

Twice in the first month, I took a dose I'd already taken because I couldn't remember. Once I started logging in real-time, this completely stopped.

5. Timing matters more than most people think

My blood pressure readings improved by 12% just by taking the same medication at a consistent time each day — not a different dose, same dose, just consistent timing.

This experience is exactly why I built CarePulse. Not another reminder app that you'll mute in a week. A system that actually helps you see your patterns, catch your blind spots, and stay consistent.

If you're someone who takes daily medication, supplements, or tracks health goals — I'd genuinely love your feedback. We're in early access right now with a free 7-day trial.

The 5-Minute Evening Routine That Saved My Sanity as a Caregiver

When I first started caregiving for my dad, I was drowning. Missed meds. Forgotten appointments. That constant feeling of "what am I forgetting?"

Here's the simple evening routine that changed everything:

1. The 2-Minute Med Check — Every night at 8pm, go through tomorrow's medications. Not just "are they in the pill box" but actually checking dosages against the current prescription list. Takes 2 minutes, prevents disasters.

2. The Tomorrow Scan — Open the calendar and look at just the next 24 hours. Any appointments? PT sessions? Specialist calls? Set alarms right then.

3. The Body Check-In — 30 seconds. How did they eat today? How was their energy? Any pain complaints? Jot it in your phone. When the doctor asks "how have they been doing?" you'll actually have answers.

4. The Self Check-In — This is the one most caregivers skip. How are YOU? Did you eat? Did you sleep? Caregiver burnout is real and it sneaks up on you.

This routine sounds basic but consistency is the entire game. The caregivers who burn out aren't the ones with the hardest cases — they're the ones without systems.

That's exactly why I built CarePulse. It automates the tracking, sends the reminders, and connects you with other caregivers who actually get it.

If you're caring for someone and feel like you're holding it all together with duct tape — you're not alone.

The 5 medication mistakes caregivers make (and how to avoid them)

I've been in the caregiving space for a while, and these are the mistakes I see over and over:

1. Not tracking timing gaps. Your parent says they took their meds. But did they take them at the right time? A 4-hour gap on blood pressure meds can cause a spike.

2. Mixing up PRN and scheduled meds. "As needed" and "every 8 hours" are very different. Confusing them leads to double-dosing or missed doses.

3. No backup when you're unavailable. If you get sick or have an emergency, does anyone else know the medication schedule? Most caregivers say no.

4. Ignoring meal timing. Some meds need food. Some need an empty stomach. Some interact with grapefruit. If you're not tracking meals alongside meds, you're flying blind.

5. Paper systems. Notebooks get lost. Sticky notes fall off the fridge. You need a system that sends reminders and keeps a log.

I built CarePulse to solve all of this — medication tracking, meal logging, sleep monitoring, exercise, and smart reminders for everything. All in one place, for $5.99/month.

If you're a caregiver or managing care for a family member, this is for you.
