5 things I'd do differently if I was starting a Shopify store in 2026

Been in ecommerce long enough to know what actually matters vs. what wastes your time. Here's the honest list:

1. Skip the logo obsession. Your first 100 customers don't care about your font choice. They care about the product and the offer. Get a clean template and move.

2. Start with 3-5 products max. New sellers always want 50+ SKUs on day one. That's a logistics nightmare before you've even validated demand. Pick a tight niche, test it, then expand.

3. Paid ads on day one = burning cash. Your product page isn't converting yet. You don't know your audience. Run organic content for 2-4 weeks, learn what resonates, THEN put money behind it.

4. Email > social followers. 10,000 Instagram followers with 2% engagement is worse than 500 email subscribers who actually open. Build the list from day one.

5. Obsess over AOV, not traffic. Bundles, upsells, and post-purchase offers will 2-3x your revenue faster than doubling your traffic ever will.

I break down stuff like this every week in Cart Insider — real strategies for Shopify store owners who want to stop guessing and start selling.
