You're here because you want to weave E4-1 chainmaille faster, cleaner, and with fewer wasted rings. That's exactly what this course delivers.


How This Works


  1. Start the course — it's sequential, so each lesson builds on the last. Don't skip ahead.

  2. Get your tools ready — Chapter 1 covers exactly what you need (and what you don't). If you already have pliers, still read the lesson. Wrong pliers are the #1 reason beginners plateau.

  3. Prep rings in batches — Chapter 2 teaches the batch method that saves hours per project.

  4. Build speed through rhythm — Chapters 3-4 are where the real transformation happens. The two-plier speed method alone will cut your build time in half.

  5. Troubleshoot like a pro — Chapter 5 saves you from the frustrating problems that make people quit.

One Rule


Actually do the work between lessons. Speed comes from repetition with correct technique, not from watching content. Build at least one 6-inch chain strip before moving to the next chapter.

The 3 Ring Sizes That Work for European 4-in-1 (And Why Most Charts Are Wrong)

Most aspect ratio charts online give you a range like "AR 3.5–5.0" for European 4-in-1 and call it a day. That's technically correct and practically useless.


Here are the three specific ring sizes I use for 90% of my E4-1 projects, and why they work:


1. 18 AWG, 3/16" ID (AR ~4.03) — The Workhorse


This is the ring for learning and for most jewelry. Tight enough that the weave holds its shape without being so tight that you're fighting every closure. If you're starting out, this is the only size you need for your first 10 projects.


  • Wire: 18 AWG (1.02mm)

  • Inner Diameter: 3/16" (4.76mm)

  • Best for: bracelets, chokers, earrings, practice sheets


2. 16 AWG, 1/4" ID (AR ~3.88) — The Statement Piece


Heavier gauge, slightly tighter AR. This makes a substantial, weighty weave that drapes beautifully. The closures take more hand strength but the finished product looks professional immediately.


  • Wire: 16 AWG (1.29mm)

  • Inner Diameter: 1/4" (6.35mm)

  • Best for: wide bracelets, shirt panels, decorative pieces


3. 20 AWG, 5/32" ID (AR ~4.88) — The Fine Detail


Looser AR, thinner wire. This makes a lighter, more flexible weave. Faster to build because the rings close easily, but less forgiving of sloppy closures — every gap shows.


  • Wire: 20 AWG (0.81mm)

  • Inner Diameter: 5/32" (3.97mm)

  • Best for: delicate necklaces, fine jewelry, lightweight earrings


The Mistake Everyone Makes


Buying a "starter kit" with random ring sizes. You end up with 200 rings at AR 3.2 (too tight to close without scratching) and 200 at AR 5.5 (so loose the weave flops around). Pick ONE of the three sizes above and buy 500+ rings in that size. You'll learn faster with consistent material.


Quick Test


Grab four closed rings and one open ring. Thread the open ring through all four closed rings and close it. If you can't fit all four through without forcing, your AR is too tight for E4-1. If the four rings slide around freely and won't stay in the 2-2 orientation, your AR is too loose.
