The biggest lie in chess education.
"Study grandmaster games to improve."
This is terrible advice for beginners. You know why?
Grandmasters operate on a level so far above yours that their moves look like magic. You can't learn magic by watching it — you need to learn the fundamentals first. You wouldn't study NBA film to learn how to dribble. You'd practice dribbling. At your level, the fundamentals ARE the advantage:
→ Don't hang pieces
→ Control the center
→ Use all your pieces
→ Know basic endgames
Master these and you'll crush everyone at your rating.
