Most wasted trips to a government office start the same way: the wrong branch, the wrong photo size, or a missing photocopy.

Do this the night before:

1. Write the exact document you need. “Birth certificate” is not enough — PSA copy, local civil registrar, or a certified true copy are different errands.

2. Open the official agency site, not a Facebook page that promises same-day service. Screenshot the current requirements.

3. Photocopy every ID you plan to bring. Then photocopy them again. Windows still ask for extras.

4. Write down your full legal name as it appears on your birth certificate, plus your parents’ names. Do not reconstruct this at the counter.

5. If you are transacting for someone else, bring an authorization letter and their ID. Without those, you will be sent home.

If two offices could apply, call before you travel. Bring the confirmation with you.
