3 Flour Swaps That Changed My Baking (and My Macros)

I used to think healthy baking meant dry, crumbly, sad desserts. Then I stopped trying to "make recipes healthier" and started actually understanding ingredients.

Here are 3 flour swaps I use constantly:

1. Almond flour β†’ for anything dense & rich

Brownies, cookies, pie crusts. Higher fat, zero gluten, genuinely better texture for fudgy bakes. Use a 1:1 swap but add an extra egg for binding.

2. Oat flour β†’ for anything fluffy

Muffins, pancakes, banana bread. Blend rolled oats in a blender for 30 seconds. Cheap, high-fiber, and your kids won't know the difference.

3. Coconut flour β†’ when you need absorbency

Great for keto recipes. But careful β€” it absorbs 3x more liquid than regular flour. Use ΒΌ cup coconut flour for every 1 cup AP flour, and add extra eggs + liquid.

These aren't "hacks." This is just how good bakers think about ingredients.

I share full recipes and breakdowns every week inside CleanCrumb Kitchen.
