I see it constantly — people spend $40 on a premium wax, put in an hour of work, and the finish looks mediocre. They blame the product. But the real issue happened before the wax even touched the car.

Here's what 90% of detailers skip:

Decontamination. Before any polish, sealant, or wax goes on, your paint needs to be genuinely clean at the surface level — not just visually clean.

Run your hand over the paint after washing. Feel that rough, grainy texture? That's bonded contamination — industrial fallout, brake dust, tree sap residue. A wash doesn't remove it. Your product is now sitting on top of contamination instead of bonding to paint.

The fix:

1. Use an iron decontamination spray post-wash — let it dwell, watch it turn purple as it reacts with ferrous particles, then rinse

2. Clay bar the entire car while it's wet — use a lubricant so you don't mar the paint

3. Then and only then, apply your sealant or wax

Your product will bond better. Your shine will last 3–4x longer. Your finish will look pro.
