Why most YouTube creators are leaving millions of views on the table
Here's a pattern I keep seeing:
A YouTube creator puts out a banger 20-minute video. Gets 50K views. Solid.
But the 5-6 clips hiding inside that video? Each one could pull 100K-500K views across TikTok, Reels, and Shorts. That's potentially millions of extra impressions — for content they've already made.
The problem? Most creators don't repurpose. Either they don't have time, don't know what makes a good clip, or they post a random segment with no hook and wonder why it flopped.
Here's what actually works for short-form clips:
1. The hook is everything. The first 1-2 seconds need to create a question in the viewer's mind. Not a slow intro. Not "so today I wanted to talk about..." — a pattern interrupt.
2. One idea per clip. Don't try to cram your whole video into 60 seconds. Find the single most interesting moment and build around it.
3. Format matters more than you think. Captions, pacing, cuts, and aspect ratio — a clip that works on YouTube doesn't automatically work on TikTok. Each platform has its own language.
I clip content for YouTube creators full-time. If you're sitting on a library of long-form videos and you're not repurposing them, you're leaving your biggest growth lever untouched.
