疑问 — Frequently Asked Questions

疑问 — Common Questions, Answered Plainly

---

How quickly will I receive my reading?

Within 6 hours of payment. The report is delivered as a PDF to the email address you provide at checkout. If you do not receive it within 6 hours, contact us through support chat — delays are rare and always resolved same day.

---

I don't know my exact birth time. Can I still order?

Yes. The year, month, and day pillars still produce a meaningful reading. The hour pillar adds specificity, particularly to the Career and Self palaces in Zi Wei Dou Shu, but its absence does not void the reading. If you have an approximate time (morning / afternoon / evening), include it and we will note the uncertainty in the report.

---

Is this like a Western horoscope?

No. Western sun-sign astrology uses one variable — the position of the Sun at birth. BaZi uses eight variables encoded in a two-thousand-year-old calendrical system. Zi Wei Dou Shu uses over 108 stars distributed across 12 life palaces. The methodological depth is not comparable.

---

Does it predict the future?

It maps tendencies, seasons, and structural patterns — not events with certainty. The reading will tell you the quality of a ten-year cycle, the elemental flavor of the current year, and which domains of life are lit or shadowed. What you do within that map is your own.

---

Can I order a reading as a gift?

Yes. At checkout, provide the recipient's birth details and your own email address. The report will be sent to your inbox and you can forward it at the right moment.

---

What format is the report?

A typeset PDF, designed in the spirit of a calm manuscript. Approximately 18 pages for the BaZi Reading, 28 pages for the Combined Reading. Readable on screen or printed.

---

What is your refund policy?

Full refund within 14 days of purchase, no questions asked. Contact us through support chat.

---

What do you do with my birth data?

It is used solely to calculate and interpret your reading. Your data is not sold, shared with third parties, or used for model training.

西来问道 — When the West Came to Ask: Four Documented Cases

西来问道 — Western Seekers Come to Ask the Way

The idea that Eastern metaphysics is confined to Asia is historically inaccurate. Below are four publicly documented cases of prominent Western figures engaging with the I Ching, Five Elements, or related Chinese classical traditions.

---

🏛 Donald Trump — Trump Tower, NYC, 1995

The development of Trump Tower involved consultation with a Hong Kong feng shui master. The placement of the main entrance, water features, and lobby mirrors followed classical Five-Element feng shui principles. Documented in The Guardian and NPR interviews.

BaZi connection: Feng shui and BaZi share the same Five-Element and stem-branch cosmology. The same logic governing spatial arrangement governs the timing of destiny.

---

🍎 Steve Jobs — I Ching and the East, 1970s onward

Jobs carried a copy of the I Ching throughout college and continued referencing it into his career. Walter Isaacson's authorized biography documents Jobs' sustained interest in Zen Buddhism and Eastern frameworks for understanding pattern and change.

⚽ David Beckham — Hong Kong, 2024

During his Hong Kong visit, Beckham visited a traditional Chinese metaphysics studio for a BaZi consultation. Reported by Dimsum Daily and HK01 (香港01) with photographs.

---

✨ Gwyneth Paltrow — Five Elements, 2008 onward

Paltrow's Goop platform has featured Five Elements analysis since 2008, and Paltrow has discussed her elemental constitution in multiple Goop editorials. The Five Elements (木火土金水) are the theoretical foundation of BaZi interpretation.

Why This Matters

These are not endorsements of astrology as prediction. They are data points about how analytically-minded individuals engage with frameworks that have survived two thousand years of refinement.

BaZi and Zi Wei Dou Shu are not casino prediction machines. They are structured maps — and serious people have always found value in good maps.

What Is Zi Wei Dou Shu 紫微斗数? The Purple Star System Explained

紫微斗数 — Purple Star Astrology

If BaZi reads the elemental weather of your life, Zi Wei Dou Shu reads the rooms you live it in.

Developed by the Song-dynasty hermit Chen Tuan (陈抟, 871–989 CE), Zi Wei Dou Shu places one hundred and eight stars across twelve life palaces — each governing a specific domain of human experience. The chart is precise to the year, month, day, and hour of birth.

---

The Twelve Palaces (十二宫)

Each palace governs a domain: Self (命宫), Siblings (兄弟宫), Spouse (夫妻宫), Children (子女宫), Wealth (财帛宫), Health (疾厄宫), Travel (迁移宫), Subordinates (奴仆宫), Career (官禄宫), Property (田宅宫), Blessings (福德宫), Parents (父母宫).

---

The Stars

108 stars are distributed across the twelve palaces — 14 major stars, 6 supporting stars, and a complex array of minor and transforming stars. The central star is 紫微 (Zi Wei), the Purple Star — historically the pole star of the Chinese sky, the seat of the celestial emperor. Its palace placement reveals your fundamental life axis.

---

How It Differs from BaZi

BaZi uses eight characters (Four Pillars) to describe your elemental constitution — Day Master, strengths, friction points, and the macro seasons of fortune across ten-year Luck Pillars.

Zi Wei uses a palace map — it locates which rooms of life are lit for you, which are shadowed, and how the stars move through them over time.

The two systems complement each other. This is why the Combined Reading weaves both: BaZi for the climate, Zi Wei for the terrain.

---

Lineage Note

Our readings draw primarily from the Fujian lineage (闽派) as transmitted through Hong Kong and Taiwan masters, cross-referenced against the classical 《紫微斗数全书》.

See the Zi Wei Dou Shu product for standalone readings, or the Combined Reading for both systems together.

What Is BaZi? The Ancient Chinese System That Maps Your Destiny

The Four Pillars of Destiny 四柱命理

Most people in the West know their zodiac sign. But in Chinese metaphysics, your destiny is mapped by four pillars — your year, month, day, and hour of birth — each encoded as a pair of Heavenly Stems and Earthly Branches.

This system is called BaZi (八字), literally "Eight Characters," and it has been used for over 1,000 years to understand personality, career potential, relationships, health patterns, and life timing.

How It Differs from Western Astrology

Western Astrology

BaZi

Basis

Sun's position relative to constellations

Year, month, day, hour encoded in stem-branch pairs

Elements

Fire, Earth, Air, Water

Wood, Fire, Earth, Metal, Water

Cycle

12-year zodiac

60-year Jiazi cycle

Focus

Life trajectory, timing & decision-making

The Five Elements 五行

Everything in BaZi revolves around the balance and interaction of five elements:

  • 🪵 Wood — Growth, ambition, creativity

  • 🔥 Fire — Passion, visibility, expression

  • 🏔️ Earth — Stability, trust, nourishment

  • ⚔️ Metal — Precision, discipline, refinement

  • 🌊 Water — Wisdom, adaptability, flow

Your chart reveals which elements dominate your life and which are lacking — creating a map of strengths, blind spots, and optimal timing windows.

Why It Matters Today

In an age of uncertainty, BaZi offers something rare: a structured framework for major life decisions — when to launch a business, change careers, enter or exit relationships, or simply understand why certain years feel harder than others.

The heavens write. We learn to read.
