The real reason agencies lose money on commissions (it's not the math)
Ran into this over and over while building out payout systems for agencies: the commission math is almost never the problem. The tracking is.
Most agencies pay affiliates, reps, or partners out of a spreadsheet that one person owns. That person goes on vacation, a formula breaks, a partner's rate changes mid-month and nobody updates row 47 — and now someone's underpaid, someone's overpaid, and trust with your best partners takes the hit.
The fix isn't a fancier spreadsheet. It's separating three things that usually get mashed into one tab:
Who's owed what (partner, deal, rate, status) — this needs to be a live record, not a snapshot
How you talk to partners about it (payout emails, outreach) — worth testing subject lines here just like you would a sales sequence, because payout emails have brutal open rates when they look automated
How you get new partners in the door (your launch/promo content) — most agencies never systemize this part at all
Built a dashboard + subject line testing matrix + launch content kit around exactly this after fixing it for the fifth time. Happy to share specifics if anyone's fighting the same fire.
