The affiliate automation everyone gets backwards
Most affiliate marketers are automating the wrong step.
Everyone's rushing to plug AI into content creation — captions, emails, landing pages. Fine, that helps. But the actual bottleneck in affiliate income isn't content volume, it's offer selection.
Here's the math nobody talks about: a mediocre offer with great copy converts worse than a great offer with mediocre copy. If you're spending 90% of your time perfecting an email sequence for a one-time $30 commission offer, you're optimizing the wrong lever.
Quick framework before you write a single word of copy:
Recurring > one-time. A $50/mo recurring commission at a 20% churn rate outperforms almost any one-time payout within 4 months.
Check gravity, not just payout. High commission with zero recent sales usually means the offer is dying or oversaturated — dig into whether affiliates are still actively promoting it.
Match offer to audience temperature. Cold traffic converts on low-commitment, high-trust offers (freemium, low-ticket). Warm/retargeted traffic can handle the high-ticket asks.
Track before you scale. Don't 10x ad spend or content volume on an offer until you have at least 20-30 conversions of clean data — otherwise you're scaling noise.
AI tools are great at making step 2 (content) fast. They're not yet great at step 1 (offer judgment) — that still takes a human looking at real numbers. Do the offer research first, then let automation handle the execution.
What's the highest-converting offer you've run this year, and what made it work?
