The one thing youth basketball players get wrong (and how to fix it)

Most youth basketball players think scoring more = getting better.

They're wrong.

The players who actually develop fast are the ones who obsess over one thing: court vision.

Court vision isn't a talent — it's a skill. And like any skill, it can be trained. Here's what that training looks like:

1. Slow the game down mentally

Most kids rush because they're reacting. Train yourself to read the defense BEFORE you receive the ball. Where are the defenders? Who's open? What's the likely help side?

2. Dribble without looking at the ball

If your eyes are on the ball, they're not on the court. Start every practice with 10 minutes of eyes-up dribbling drills. This alone will change your game within 2 weeks.

3. Watch film like a point guard — even if you're not one

Pick any NBA game. Watch just the point guard for one full quarter. Don't watch the ball — watch where they're looking before they pass. You'll start to see the reads they're making.

This is what we teach at Court Vision Academy. Not just how to score, but how to see the game. 🏀
