The 5 CS Concepts That Changed How I Think About Code

After years of writing code, these are the concepts that made the biggest difference:

1. Big O Notation — Stop guessing if your code is fast. Understand why it's slow and how to fix it.

2. Recursion & Call Stack — Once it clicks, you'll see recursive patterns everywhere. Trees, graphs, backtracking — all recursion.

3. Hash Maps — The single most useful data structure. If you're not using them, you're probably overcomplicating things.

4. Graph Traversal (BFS/DFS) — Networks, social connections, web crawlers, dependency resolution — all graphs under the hood.

5. System Design Basics — Knowing how to scale a system (caching, load balancing, database sharding) separates juniors from seniors.

I built CS Academy to teach all of this from scratch — with real projects, not toy examples. If you're serious about leveling up, come learn with us.
