The 3 mistakes venue owners make when booking entertainment

After many years in entertainment and music, I see the same patterns reflecting a negative outcome of what could've been more profitable results. Here are some areas of concern when booking entertainment.

1. Booking on price alone.

The cheapest DJ isn't saving you money — they're costing you a dead room and a bar that doesn't move. Entertainment is the engine of your revenue, not an expense item.

2. Waiting until the last minute.

The best talent books 2-4 weeks out minimum. If you're scrambling 3 days before, you're picking from whoever's left.

3. Not matching talent to the crowd.

A fire Latin DJ doesn't fix a hip-hop crowd. Know your audience, then book accordingly.

I developed Dan Griffith Promotions to solve exactly this — I know talent, I know the rooms, and I match the right performer to your specific venue and crowd.

Drop a comment if you've experienced any of these. Happy to help.

5 mistakes venue owners make when booking entertainment

Been in the entertainment booking game long enough to see the same mistakes kill a venue's momentum. Here's what I see over and over:

1. Booking based on follower count, not crowd fit. A DJ with 200K followers doesn't mean they'll read your room. Match the act to your actual crowd — age, vibe, music taste.

2. Waiting until last minute. Good acts book 2-4 weeks out minimum. If you're scrambling 3 days before, you're getting leftovers.

3. Not having a rider ready. Sound system specs, green room situation, load-in times — have this locked in before you even reach out. Professionals notice.

4. Underpaying and expecting A-list energy. You get what you pay for. A $200 DJ will give you a $200 performance. Budget accordingly.

5. No relationship building. The best venues have 3-5 go-to acts they rotate. Build real relationships with performers — they'll prioritize your bookings and bring their crowd.

This is exactly why we built Entertainment Booking Agency — to handle the matchmaking so venue owners can focus on running their business. If you're tired of the booking headache, we got you.
