3 Things That Make or Break a Car Photo

Most car photos look the same — front 3/4, low angle, golden hour. Nothing wrong with that. But if you want shots that actually stop people from scrolling, here's what separates good from great:

1. Clean lines, clean paint. Detail your car before the shoot. No exceptions. Even the best edit can't fix brake dust on your calipers or water spots on your hood. A $30 wash can be the difference between a photo you're proud of and one that sits in your camera roll forever.

2. Location context matters more than you think. A slammed sedan in a parking garage hits different than the same car in a field. Think about what matches the vibe of your build — urban, industrial, coastal, desert. The background tells half the story.

3. Timing is everything. Overcast days are underrated. You get soft, even light across the whole car — no harsh reflections, no blown-out highlights. Golden hour is amazing, but don't sleep on cloud cover.

We shoot autos and portraits out of Del Mar. If you want to see your car or your face done right, come through.
