The 3-touch cold email sequence that actually gets replies (steal this)
Most cold email sequences die after touch 1 because they lead with a pitch. Here's a structure that consistently gets replies for lead gen outreach:
Touch 1 (Day 1) — The Observation
Subject: quick question about [specific detail about their business]
Open with something specific you noticed (a job posting, a review, a gap in their funnel). No pitch. End with a low-friction question.
Touch 2 (Day 3) — The Proof
Subject: re: quick question about [specific detail]
Reference touch 1 briefly, then share one relevant result/case study in 2 sentences max. Ask if it's worth a 10-minute call.
Touch 3 (Day 6) — The Permission-to-Close
Subject: should I close your file?
Short, low-pressure. "Totally understand if the timing isn't right — should I check back in a quarter, or is this not a priority?" This line alone recovers a surprising number of replies because it removes pressure.
Why it works:
Touch 1 builds relevance without asking for anything
Touch 2 builds trust with proof, not features
Touch 3 uses reverse psychology to re-engage silent leads
If you're running outreach for clients, track reply rate by touch — most operators find touch 3 outperforms touch 1 once you've sent enough volume.
