The editing mistake killing your engagement (and the 30-second fix)
Most creators lose viewers in the first 3 seconds — not because the content is bad, but because the edit is wrong.
Here's what I see constantly:
Dead air at the start. You hit record, pause, then start talking. That half-second of nothing? Your audience is already gone. Cut it. Start mid-sentence if you have to.
No pattern interrupts. If your cuts are predictable — same angle, same zoom, same pacing — the brain tunes out around the 8-second mark. Drop in a zoom, a sound effect, a text pop, anything to break the rhythm every 5-7 seconds.
Music too loud in the first 5 seconds. The hook needs to hit clean. Fade the music in after the hook lands, not before.
These three things take 30 seconds to fix in any editor and they'll bump your retention by 15-20% overnight.
I run Digital Privations MV — we handle editing for creators and influencers so you can focus on making content. $50 per quick edit. DM me or check out the product page if you want to stop leaving views on the table.
