Why I stopped selling 'one thing' and started building a digital product shelf

Most people building a digital products business make the same mistake early on: they pick ONE ebook or ONE template pack, pour everything into it, and then wonder why growth stalls after the first wave of buyers.

Here's the shift that actually works — treat it like a shelf, not a single product.

A few things I've learned setting this up:

1. Format doesn't matter, the problem you solve does. A PDF guide, a Notion template, a prompt pack, a checklist — they're all just wrappers. Customers don't buy "a PDF," they buy a solution to something they're stuck on. Once you think in problems instead of formats, you stop feeling boxed into one product type.

2. Instant delivery is the whole value prop. No shipping, no inventory, no waiting. Someone pays, they get the file immediately. If your checkout-to-download experience has any friction, you're leaving money on the table.

3. Start narrow, expand on demand. Launch with one strong resource that solves a specific pain point for a specific audience (creators, freelancers, students — pick one to start). Then let actual customer requests tell you what to build next, instead of guessing.

That's the model behind what I'm building right now — a digital resource shelf that starts with templates, guides, and prompt packs, and grows based on what people actually ask for.

If you're building something similar or thinking about it, happy to swap notes on what's working.
