The #1 Mistake Guys Make Trying to Get Lean (And How to Fix It)
Most guys who want to get lean make the same mistake: they slash calories, do endless cardio, and watch their strength disappear.
Then they look in the mirror 3 months later — smaller, weaker, and still not lean.
Here's the fix:
Your body doesn't want to lose fat while maintaining muscle. You have to force it. That means:
Training heavy — If you drop the weights, your body has no reason to keep the muscle. Keep pushing PRs even in a deficit.
Eating enough protein — 1g per pound of bodyweight, non-negotiable. Most guys are eating half that.
Being patient with the deficit — A 300-500 calorie deficit is plenty. Crash diets kill your strength and your hormones.
Prioritizing compound lifts — Bench, squat, deadlift, overhead press. These are your muscle-retention insurance policy.
The guys who get lean AND stay strong? They follow a system. Not random workouts. Not whatever the influencer posted today. A real program with progressive overload, structured nutrition, and built-in recovery.
That's exactly what I built inside Discipline Drive — a 6-month system for men who want to look great and lift heavy.
