Why we built a shared currency across two MMORPGs instead of two separate economies

Running Battle of the Immortals and World of ClaudeCraft as separate games taught us something the hard way: splitting your playerbase's wallet kills momentum. Players who loved both games had to grind twice, buy twice, and never felt "rich" in either.

So we merged the premium currency — Claudium — across both titles. A few things happened:

  • Cross-game promos actually work now (an event in one game can reward players in the other)

  • Players consolidate spend instead of splitting it, so a $5 pack feels like it goes further

  • We can balance the in-game economy centrally instead of managing two separate ones that drift apart

The tradeoff: it forced us to be disciplined about drop rates and pricing parity across both games, since Claudium now has to feel "fair" everywhere it's spent.

If you're building multiple games or products under one brand, unifying the currency/credit layer early is worth the engineering pain — retrofitting it later is brutal.
