Why every ADHD productivity system fails (and what actually works)

I've been in the ADHD productivity rabbit hole for years. Notion templates, Pomodoro timers, bullet journals, time-blocking apps — tried them all.

They all fail for the same reason: they're designed for neurotypical brains.

They assume you can just "decide" to focus. That if you organize things well enough, execution follows. That's not how ADHD works.

Here's what actually moves the needle:

1. Shrink the task until your brain stops resisting

Not "write the report." Try "open the document and type one sentence." Your brain fights a 2-hour task. It won't fight a 30-second one. And once you start, ADHD hyperfocus often kicks in.

2. External accountability beats internal motivation every time

Willpower is a neurotypical luxury. ADHD brains need someone asking "did you do the thing?" Not a notification. A human.

3. Completion is a muscle, not a personality trait

You're not "bad at finishing things." You just haven't trained the circuit. Small daily completions compound into a totally different relationship with your work.

That's what Done Mode is built around — micro-tasks, human accountability, and weekly completion challenges for ADHD professionals.
