The math sportsbooks don't want you doing: a real Underdog Fantasy edge example

Most people picking Underdog player props are just going with "vibes" or a hot streak. Here's the actual math that separates a +EV pick from a coinflip.

The formula:

Edge % = (True Win Probability − Implied Probability) / Implied Probability

Worked example:

A player prop is priced so the implied probability of the "over" is 52%. Based on last 5 games, pace, and matchup, you calculate the player's true probability of hitting the over at 59%.

Edge % = (0.59 − 0.52) / 0.52 = 13.5% edge

That's a strong play (anything above 5% is generally worth taking; 2-5% is a lean; under 2%, pass — the variance isn't worth it).

The #1 mistake people make: using season-long averages instead of recent form + pace-adjusted matchup data. A player's last 3 games against similar defenses tells you more than a 40-game average.
