Why chasing creative strategy gigs is a beginner's biggest mistake...
Let me save you two years of pain...
Right now, creative strategy gigs are falling out of the sky...
Every ecom brand is hiring for it. Every young copywriter in your feed is suddenly a "creative strategist" posting his rented Lambo...
Looks like free money...
It's not.
It's the hardest money you will ever make in this business...
And I need you to understand why BEFORE you burn the next two years of your life learning it the slow way.
Here's the ugly truth nobody tells you...
In creative strategy, you can do everything right and still get fired.
You write the perfect brief. You nail the hook. You hand over a hundred fresh ads.
And the ROAS dips anyway.
Not because your work was bad. Because the offer was weak. Or the landing page leaked. Or Meta shut off the ad account. Or a competitor started outbidding them into oblivion.
None of that was your fault.
Doesn't matter. You're the "ads guy." When the number drops, you're the one who gets blamed. You're the one who gets cut.
That's the game you're signing up for. Graded every single month on a number you don't control.
Now let me tell you about the other road.
Email marketing is EASIER to start. Not a little. A lot.
There's less that can blow up.
The results are trackable to the dollar.
And you can get good and get paid faster than you ever could wrestling cold traffic and creative fatigue at 2am.
"But Christian... doesn't creative strategy pay more?"
No. That's the exact myth that traps people.
Can you make $10k a month from one creative strategy client?
Sure.
Guess what. You can make $10k a month from ONE email client too.
I've personally charged up to $25,000 monthly for a single email client.
So let's line it up.
Two paths. Same ceiling.
One is brutal, fragile, and grades you on things outside your hands. The other is easier to start, easier to keep, and pays exactly the same at the top.
Why in the world would a beginner pick the hard one?
They wouldn't. If somebody had just told them.
So here's the rule. Screenshot it.
If you have NEVER made $10k from copywriting... creative strategy should not even be on your radar. Not a maybe. Not a someday. Close the tab.
If you haven't hit $25k a month yet... put your focus on email. Or at the very least, use email to drag yourself to a stable $10k first.
Get the income steady. Get the reps in. Build on the road that doesn't try to buck you off every 30 days.
THEN, if you still want to stack creative strategy on top of it? Go for it. You'll have earned the right, and you'll have the cushion to eat the volatility.
I'm not telling you creative strategy is bad.
I'm telling you it's the advanced class, and you're trying to enroll before you've passed the basics.
Take the easier road.
It goes to the exact same place.
