I did the math: reading every privacy policy you agree to would take 76 full working days a year

Saw a stat that stuck with me: researchers estimated that if the average internet user actually stopped and read every privacy policy and terms of service page they "agree to" in a year, it would take around 76 full working days. Almost 3 months of your life, just reading legalese you'll forget the next minute.

And it's not just time — it's what's buried in there. A few things I've learned to actually watch for after digging through a bunch of these:

  1. Arbitration clauses / class-action waivers — buried in section 14 or so, these often mean you give up your right to sue or join a class action if something goes wrong. Most people never know this until it matters.

  2. "We may share your data with partners" — vague language like this is doing a lot of work. It usually means broader data sales than you'd assume from the app's marketing.

  3. Auto-renewal + cancellation friction — check how you cancel before you subscribe. Some policies make renewal automatic but cancellation deliberately buried.

  4. Policy change notices — a lot of policies reserve the right to change terms with just a notice on a webpage, not an email. That means the terms you agreed to can quietly shift.

None of this is about paranoia — it's about knowing what you're actually signing up for in 2 minutes instead of 20.

Curious what this community has run into — any wild clauses you've found buried in the fine print of apps you use daily? I'll drop a few of the worst ones I've seen in the comments.
