3 things I wish someone told me when I started dancing

I used to think I had "two left feet." Turns out that's not a real condition — it's just a lack of the right fundamentals.

After years of teaching beginners, here are the 3 things that actually matter when you're starting out:

1. Rhythm comes before moves.

Most people try to learn choreography first. Wrong order. If you can't feel the beat, no step will look right. Spend your first week just moving to music — no "steps" required.

2. Your mirror is your best coach.

Record yourself for 30 seconds. Watch it back. You'll instantly see what feels off. Most beginners never do this and wonder why they're stuck.

3. Confidence > technique (at first).

Nobody on the dance floor is judging your footwork. They notice energy. Commit to the movement, even if it's wrong. You can clean it up later.

If any of this resonates, I built a step-by-step beginner course that covers all of this and more — from zero to actually feeling comfortable moving. Check it out.
