The 3 Biggest Hypertrophy Mistakes Holding You Back

I've coached hundreds of lifters and the same 3 mistakes keep showing up:

1. Chasing weight instead of tension. If you're ego-lifting with terrible form, you're training your joints — not your muscles. Slow the eccentric down, squeeze at the peak, and control the entire range of motion.

2. Not tracking volume. "I just go by feel" is a recipe for spinning your wheels. Progressive overload requires data. Track your sets, reps, and weights. If you're not beating last week's numbers, you're not growing.

3. Ignoring frequency. Hitting chest once a week with 20 sets in one session? That's junk volume. Split it across 2-3 sessions per week. More frequent stimulation = more growth signals.

Fix these three things and you'll see more progress in the next 12 weeks than you did in the last 12 months.

I built the 12-Week Hypertrophy Blueprint around these exact principles — structured programming, intelligent volume management, and optimal frequency. If you're serious about building muscle, check it out.
