Most photographers show up, point, and shoot. That's the bare minimum. Here's what separates a forgettable photo set from one that actually makes people feel something:

1. Walk the venue before guests arrive. Lighting changes room to room. If your photographer doesn't scout the space, they're guessing — and you're paying for guesses.

2. Ask about the moments that matter to YOU. A birthday toast. The look on someone's face when they walk in. These aren't accidents — they're anticipated.

3. Know the timeline cold. If the cake comes out at 9 and they're across the room charging a battery, that moment's gone.

4. Have a backup plan for everything. Second camera body. Extra cards. Portable lighting. Rain plans. Professionalism is about preparation.

5. Deliver fast. Nobody wants to wait 6 weeks for photos from a party. A week or less, edited and ready — that's the standard.
