What actually makes a good pet subscription box (most get this wrong)
Most pet subscription boxes just throw in random toys and treats and call it "curated." After running Flow Pet Pro for a while, here's what actually separates a good box from a lazy one:
1. Rotation, not repetition. If your dog or cat sees the same toy shape every month, they stop caring by week two. We rotate materials (rope, rubber, plush) and mechanics (chew, chase, puzzle) every single box.
2. Sized for THEIR body, not "pets" in general. A toy built for a 60lb lab is wasted on a 10lb terrier, and cats need completely different mechanics than dogs entirely. Honestly, this is the exact reason we just split our one mixed box into a dedicated Dog Box and Cat Box — a generic "pet" box was compromising on both.
3. Something that isn't just a toy. Enrichment (puzzle feeders) and wellness (dental chews, grooming tools) get skipped by most boxes, but they're what actually keeps a pet happier long-term — not just occupied for ten minutes.
If you want to see what a properly curated box looks like before committing to a subscription, we also just added a one-time Starter Kit — no strings attached, just the gear.
