5 things your corporate event photographer should be doing (but probably isn't)
Most event photographers show up, shoot, and leave. That's the bare minimum. Here's what separates forgettable event photos from ones that actually move the needle for your brand:
1. Pre-event walkthrough. Lighting changes everything. A good photographer scouts the venue beforehand — not just for aesthetics, but for logistics. Where are the speakers entering? Where's the worst lighting? Where will attendees naturally gather?
2. Capture the in-between moments. The keynote is important. But the handshake after the panel, the laugh during the cocktail hour, the exec checking their notes backstage — that's where the real storytelling lives.
3. Brand-aligned editing. Your photos should feel like your brand, not a photographer's portfolio. Color grading, crop style, and composition should match your company's visual identity.
4. Same-day selects. You shouldn't have to wait a week to post on LinkedIn. A few polished selects delivered the same night means your social team can capitalize on the moment.
5. A shot list that's actually useful. Not a generic list of "group photo, stage shot, food." A real shot list built around your event goals — what story are you trying to tell?
I shoot corporate events full-time. Galas, conferences, summits, product launches. If any of this resonates, FM Productions might be a good fit for your next event.
