Why most e-commerce product content doesn't convert (and how to fix it)

I've produced content for dozens of DTC brands and the same mistake shows up every time.

Most brands treat product content like a photoshoot checklist. White background. Three angles. Maybe a lifestyle shot. Then they wonder why their ROAS is tanking.

Here's what actually converts in 2026:

1. UGC-style beats studio-polished

The best-performing ads right now look like they were shot on someone's phone in their kitchen. That doesn't mean sloppy — it means authentic. Real people, real reactions, real lighting.

2. The first 0.5 seconds is everything

You have half a second before someone scrolls past. Your hook needs to be visual, not text. A product hitting a table, an unboxing reveal, a before/after snap. Movement > stillness.

3. Shoot for the platform, not for your website

Vertical 9:16 for TikTok/Reels. Square for feed. Horizontal for YouTube. Most brands shoot one format and crop it. That's leaving money on the table.

4. Volume wins

The brands spending $50k/month on ads aren't running 3 creatives. They're running 30. Test different hooks, formats, and angles. Your creative is your targeting now.

We build content systems for e-com brands that need to scale. If your content isn't converting, the problem probably isn't your product.
