The 3 mistakes almost every new dog/cat owner makes in week one

I started Furry Essentials after watching too many first-time pet owners get overwhelmed in their first week. A few patterns kept showing up:

1. Buying too much, too fast. People show up to a pet store and walk out with 15 items they don't need yet. Week one only needs: a grooming brush, a feeding bowl, and something that smells familiar (a blanket or bed liner). Everything else can wait until you know your pet's actual habits.

2. Skipping the routine before the toys. A consistent feeding and brushing schedule does more for a new pet's anxiety than any toy will. Animals settle faster with predictability, not stimulation.

3. Not planning for the first vet visit. New owners often don't budget time or money for it in week one, then scramble. Book it before the pet even comes home.

We built a simple starter kit around exactly this — just the essentials that matter in the first month, nothing you'll regret buying. If you're bringing home a new dog or cat soon, happy to answer questions here.
