If I had to start over at 20 with $0 — here's my exact 30-day plan

No connections. No audience. No money. Just a phone and WiFi.

Here's exactly what I'd do:

Week 1: Pick & Research

  • Day 1-2: Pick a skill I can learn fast (social media management, video editing, copywriting, or lead generation)

  • Day 3-4: Watch 10 free YouTube tutorials. Take notes. Practice on fake projects

  • Day 5-7: Create 3 portfolio samples (even if they're for made-up brands)

Week 2: Build Presence

  • Day 8-10: Set up a clean social media profile. Bio = what I do + who I help

  • Day 11-14: Post 1 tip per day showing my skill. Screen recordings, before/afters, quick tutorials

Week 3: Outreach

  • Day 15-17: DM 20 small businesses per day offering a FREE sample of my work

  • Day 18-19: Follow up with everyone who opened but didn't reply

  • Day 20-21: Close first 1-2 free clients. Deliver INSANE value

Week 4: Monetize

  • Day 22-24: Ask free clients for testimonials + referrals

  • Day 25-27: Create a simple offer ($200-500/month retainer)

  • Day 28-30: Pitch 10 warm leads from referrals + DM outreach

Expected result: $500-$1,500 by Day 30

Is it guaranteed? No. Will it be uncomfortable? Yes. But that's how every successful person started.

You don't need 10K followers to make money online (here's proof)

The biggest lie on the internet: "Build an audience first, monetize later."

Here's what actually works when you're starting from zero:

The 100 True Fans Model

You don't need millions of followers. You need 100 people who trust you enough to pay $29/month. That's $2,900/month. From 100 people.

How to find them (without going viral):

1. Pick ONE platform. Stop trying to be everywhere. TikTok, Twitter/X, Instagram, YouTube Shorts — pick one and go deep.

2. Post 1 piece of value content per day. Not motivation. Not quotes. Actual tips, tutorials, or breakdowns people can USE.

3. DM 10 people per day. Find people asking questions in your niche. Answer them for free. Build relationships.

4. Make an offer by Day 14. Don't wait until you're "ready." You'll never feel ready. Package what you know into something simple and put a price on it.

Real numbers:

  • 30 days of posting = ~500-2,000 new followers

  • 300 DMs sent = ~30-50 real conversations

  • 5-10 of those will buy something from you

That's $150-$300 in your first month. Not life-changing money — but proof that this works.

7 free tools that helped me start my online business with $0

Starting an online business doesn't require money. It requires resourcefulness.

Here are 7 tools I use every single day — all free:

1. Canva (Design)

Stop paying designers. Canva has templates for literally everything — social media posts, logos, presentations, thumbnails. The free tier is more than enough.

2. CapCut (Video Editing)

If you're creating content (and you should be), CapCut is free and powerful. Works on mobile and desktop.

3. Google Trends (Research)

Before you build anything, validate demand. Google Trends shows you what people are actually searching for RIGHT NOW.

4. ChatGPT (Content Ideas)

Use AI to brainstorm hooks, outlines, email sequences, and ad copy. Don't let it replace your voice — let it speed up your process.

5. Notion (Organization)

Track your tasks, content calendar, and SOPs in one place. Free for personal use.

6. Whop (Selling)

This is where you actually sell. Whether it's courses, digital products, memberships, or services — Whop handles payments, delivery, and community. Zero upfront cost.

7. Loom (Tutorials & Sales)

Record quick videos to explain your product, teach your audience, or follow up with leads. The free plan gives you 25 videos.

The #1 mistake beginners make? Spending months "preparing" instead of launching. Pick 3 of these tools and start building TODAY.

The 3 marketing mistakes that kill every new online business

I've watched hundreds of people try to start online businesses. The ones who fail almost always make the same three mistakes.

Mistake 1: Building before you have an audience.

You don't need a perfect website, a logo, or a 47-page business plan. You need 10 people who care about what you're offering. Start with DMs, posts, and conversations. Build the product after you have demand.

Mistake 2: Trying to sell to "everyone."

"My product is for anyone who wants to make money" is not a target market. The more specific you get, the easier marketing becomes. "Freelance designers making under $5K/month who want to raise their prices" — now you know exactly what to say and where to find them.

Mistake 3: Quitting before the compounding kicks in.

Marketing doesn't work like a light switch. It works like compound interest. Your first 30 days will feel slow. By day 90, everything changes — but only if you're still there.

I built GIGSTART Academy to help beginners avoid these traps and get to their first customers faster. No fluff, just the frameworks that actually work.
