After thousands of cuts on military installations across the country, here's what we've learned most people get wrong:

1. Showing up with wet hair. Unless you just showered at the gym, come in dry. Wet hair cuts different than dry hair and makes it harder to get your fade right.

2. Saying "just a trim" with no detail. A trim to you might be a half inch. To another person it's barely anything. Bring a photo or be specific — "one guard on the sides, finger length on top."

3. Moving your head. Seriously. Your barber is working with sharp tools inches from your face. Stay still and trust the process.

4. Not speaking up mid-cut. If something looks off, say it NOW. Not after you get home and look in the mirror. A good barber would rather fix it in the chair than lose you as a client.

5. Waiting too long between cuts. A fresh fade lasts about 2 weeks. If you're going 6+ weeks between visits, you're making your barber's job harder and your results less consistent.
