Nobody's actually making money from AI art the way you think
Everyone treats 'AI art' like it's just typing a prompt and slapping it on a print-on-demand mug. That's why 95% of people selling AI art make basically nothing — the market is flooded with generic, low-effort images that all look the same.
The people actually making money are doing three things differently:
They develop a consistent visual style, not random one-off images. Buyers (brands, other creators, print shops) pay for a recognizable aesthetic they can license repeatedly — not a single lucky output.
They stack tools instead of relying on one prompt. Base generation in Midjourney or SDXL, then upscale, inpaint, and composite. The 'finished' piece that sells is rarely the raw output.
They sell access, not just images. Digital download packs, commercial licenses, and niche commissions (album covers, brand mascots, book covers) all outearn generic marketplace listings by a wide margin.
If you're starting out: pick ONE style, generate 50 pieces in it before you sell anything, and figure out who specifically would pay for that exact look. That's the actual unlock — not the prompt.
