The only tasting method you need
Most people "taste" wine by swallowing and saying whether they like it. That is preference, not skill.
Use three steps every time. It takes 60 seconds.
Look. Tilt the glass over something white. Pale or deep? That's your first clue on grape, extraction, and age.
Smell. Two short sniffs, then one longer one. If you only get "wine," try: citrus, red berry, dark fruit, herbal, toasty. Three words is a complete note.
Sip. Notice sweetness, acidity (does your mouth water?), body, and how long the flavor lasts. Write it down immediately. Flavor fades faster than you think.
Do this with two bottles of the same grape from different producers. That is how styles click — not from a flavor wheel on a wall.
This is the method we teach in Wine & Spirits Foundations. The rest of the course is grapes, regions, spirits, and how to talk about a bottle without sounding like a textbook.
