5 Foods That Fight Cancer (According to Research, Not TikTok)
Most "cancer-fighting food" lists are garbage. They cherry-pick one mouse study and tell you to eat 4 pounds of blueberries a day.
Here's what the actual research says:
1. Cruciferous vegetables (broccoli, cauliflower, kale)
They contain sulforaphane, which activates your body's own detox enzymes. A meta-analysis in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics found a 15% reduced risk of colorectal cancer in regular consumers.
2. Turmeric (specifically curcumin)
Not a miracle cure, but curcumin has anti-inflammatory and anti-angiogenic properties backed by over 12,000 peer-reviewed papers. The catch? You need black pepper (piperine) to absorb it.
3. Berries
Ellagic acid in raspberries and anthocyanins in blueberries slow tumor growth in lab studies. Eat them whole — juice strips the fiber.
4. Garlic and onions (allium family)
The Iowa Women's Health Study found that women with the highest garlic intake had a 50% lower risk of certain colon cancers. Raw or lightly cooked is best.
5. Green tea
EGCG is one of the most studied anti-cancer compounds. 3-5 cups daily is the sweet spot based on Japanese cohort studies.
