MT5 vs cTrader: which Guardian do you need? (education)

The rules are the same on both platforms: daily loss, maximum loss (static or trailing), profit target, daily profit cap, position caps, stop-loss requirement and Friday close. The difference is the platform:

Neither version opens trades on a live chart; they only close positions and block new ones when your limit is reached. Each version runs only on its own platform, so check which terminal your prop firm gives you before buying.

Static vs trailing drawdown (education)

Static maximum loss: the floor is fixed from your starting balance. 100,000 account with 10% max loss means the floor stays at 90,000 no matter how much you make.

Trailing maximum loss: the floor moves up with your highest equity (or highest closed balance, depending on the firm). Reach 104,000 and a 10% trailing floor rises from 90,000 to 94,000. It usually never moves down.

Why it matters: with a trailing rule, giving back open profit can break the account even when you are still above the starting balance.

Check which version your firm uses and whether it trails equity or closed balance. Both Guardian versions support static and trailing modes.

Understanding daily-loss limits (education)

Most prop evaluations have a daily loss rule, but firms measure it differently:

  • Base: balance at the daily reset, equity at the reset, or the higher of the two.

  • - Reset time: usually the broker's server midnight, not your local midnight.

  • - Open trades count: floating losses usually count toward the limit, not just closed trades.

Example: base 10,000 and a 5% daily limit gives a floor of 9,500 equity for that day. If equity touches 9,500, even for a moment, the rule is broken.

Practical habits: know your firm's exact wording, keep a buffer above the floor, and stop for the day before you reach it.

Our Guardian tools (MT5 and cTrader) enforce this automatically, but read your firm's rules first. Questions welcome below, no purchase needed.

cTrader risk control: daily loss, drawdown, Friday close

HoldoutPropGuardianBot is a cTrader utility that enforces account-level trading limits automatically.

What it can enforce

  • Daily loss limits

  • Maximum loss / drawdown (static or trailing)

  • Daily profit cap

  • Maximum open positions

  • Optional stop-loss enforcement

  • Friday-close protection

  • Persistent risk settings

What it does not do

It does not open trades, does not send signals, and does not guarantee profits or a passed challenge.

Who it is for

cTrader users, including funded-account traders who need those rules applied before a limit is broken. This listing is cTrader only.

How you get it

Checkout asks for your exact cTrader ID (cTID). You receive a protected .algo for that cTID, normally within 24 hours after payment.
